As our school grows and the world continues to change, we are evolving the way we support students to engage with their learning, their school and the wider community. Technology plays an important role in modern education, providing students with opportunities to create, consume, communicate, collaborate and think critically.
From 2027, Clover Hill State School will commence a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Laptop Program for Year 4 students. The program will provide students with access to a reliable, consistent learning device that can be used both at school and at home.
The introduction of laptops will support students to develop the digital skills, independence and confidence required for their future learning. It will also provide an opportunity for students to become familiar with Windows-based technology and productivity tools, supporting a smoother transition to secondary school and the increasingly digital environments they will encounter beyond school.
To participate in the program, parents and carers will purchase an approved laptop through the school's dedicated BYOD parent portal. Devices will be selected to meet the requirements of classroom learning, including appropriate performance, battery life and connectivity.
The program will support students in engaging with a broad range of learning experiences, while maintaining a balance between digital and traditional learning. Students will use their devices to research, create and present work, collaborate with others, access curriculum resources and develop the digital literacy skills needed to participate effectively in an increasingly connected world.
The BYOD Laptop Program is an important step in preparing our students for the next stage of their education and for the opportunities and challenges of the future.
Families may purchase a device through the JB Hi-Fi Education BYOD Portal using the school code CHSSBYOD2027. Devices available through the portal have been selected to meet Clover Hill State School’s requirements. Home delivery or collection from a JB Hi-Fi store is available.

Families may purchase from another retailer however, the laptop must meet these minimum requirements:
- Windows 11
- 8 GB RAM
- 128 GB SSD
- USB-C charging
- 8–10 hours of battery life recommended
- Protective laptop sleeve required
Devices That Are Not Suitable
Chromebooks and Android devices are not supported.
Windows 11 in S Mode is not recommended*
How to Switch Out of Windows 11 S Mode
If your new laptop comes with Windows 11 in S Mode, you can switch to the full version of Windows for free.
- Click Start and open Settings.
- Select System > Activation.
- Under Switch to Windows 11 Home/Pro, click Open Store.
- In the Microsoft Store, select Get next to Switch out of S Mode.
- Once complete, your device will no longer be in S Mode and you can install apps from outside the Microsoft Store.
